Tongan rugby league team! - My letter.

Today, I'll be writing a letter to the Tongan rugby league team!

To whom it may concern,

I am writing this letter to you firstly to congratulate you guys for making it this far! Judging by the score I could tell it was a tough game, You guys did well to keep with England. Unfortunately I couldn't attend the game due to chaos before and after the game but I did show my support and appreciation
right at my house! It was really heart-breaking and disappointing to hear that Tonga lost, Especially when the referee didn't call the try.

Obviously like many others around this world, I do believe Andrew Fifita deserved that try. It was a clear 1 on 1 strip, Fifita scooped the ball back up and successfully crossed that try line. It was an amazing act as to the Tongan team only scored 4 tries in under 7 minutes but clearly we don't support of what Matt Cechin (referee) did.

Us supporters believe that we won in our hearts, No matter what we're still proud of how you guys went. Especially being able to make history!

Athletics Day - How to achieve your personal best in Athletics!

Your personal best, events like Cross country, Tests or maybe even getting up earlier than you did the day before. But today, Athletics is one main event that us Pt. Englander's achieved in our personal best!

In Athletics there are activities like Javelin, Shot put, Sprints, High Jump, Discus and etc. There are a lot of variety of events you could choose to do your best in, and you could possibly do outstanding in all but personally it's best to train for things you’re least good at it. Working your way up from least favorite events to the events you love the most. Not everything has to be perfect but you always need to try your best in events like these, to satisfy not only you but your family as well!

Another way to achieve your personal best is to always stay in track of your records, So you could obviously know what to work towards for the next event coming up. By keeping your records of the events you took place in, You could compare it to previous years and see if you improved or not. It's also good to keep in track of goals so you could accomplish that and your personal best, that’s a 2 in 1 winning goal. It’ll be easy to write down your record and underline all your goals/training's to see where you’re at.

Always stay calm whenever you’re in and out events, if you were to come last always end with a smile. It’s not always about the placing, it’s about how you did and felt. Not everyone will get what they want but if you simply train and focus on your goals you may have a better chance of coming 1st, 2nd or 3rd.

Well that’s my listing of how to achieve your personal best. Remember it doesn’t have to be Athletics or Cross country, It could simply be a test or grading. Never give up! Always continue on and strive to succeed.

Labour Day!

Working 10 or more hours in shifts, Having no break at all was such a pain to workers back in the day. October 28th 1890 was the day New Zealand decided to have a public holiday (labour day), It’s one of the day’s our people could take a day off from working. Amazingly Aotearoa was one of many countries to start an 8 hour working rate.

Every 4th Monday of October, Workers get to celebrate the right of working less than 12 hours. Way back in the days, Such as 1890 people didn’t have the option to work less or more than 12 hours and sadly some even worked for up to 18 hours. Samuel Parnell, A man who refused to work 8 hours or more as a carpenter in a shop he worked in.

Samuel Parnell. One of the most important people in New Zealand, most likely known to be a legend for being able to speak up and working only up to 8 hours in carpentry. Always explaining his rights in court, as to why he didn’t work for his normal 10 hour working day and it could and would affect his pay wage. Throughout his years of working, he did not care about a single thing of what a person had to say. He kept his ways and continued on to work his 8 hours.

It was fair enough, New Zealand had the right of claiming the right to have an 8 hour working day, but they decided to support Mr Parnell’s idea of working a full 8 hour day. Wellington judge decided for everyone in New Zealand and possibly other countries to have the right of being able to work 8 hours.

Now you know why Labour day is now here today, maybe consider a day to celebrate it yourself as it is a special day to remember. What does Labour day mean to you? Well you now know the reason so why not celebrate!

Musical Madness! - Immersion Assembly.

Term 4 has arrived and our learning intention is now Musical Madness! As our usual start to the day for Pt England school we always host an immersion assembly, Explaining what each team is learning towards. Laughter was shown and everyone talking about what fun they’re going to have throughout the term. Well this is what I thought about it all!

Most Informative:
I reckon Team 5 had the most informative show. Throughout the whole item, they explained how they felt towards the movie that had either a song or tune to it. Weather it was scary, happy or sad they’d explain their thoughts to us audience. Showing us what Team 5 is learning towards Term 4

Most Entertaining:
The one show that caught my attention was Team 3! They were hilarious in their movie. It showed them having a conversation using songs they’d listen to on a normal day out, Not only they showed having a conversation but they also showed their emotions and feelings towards on what people had to say to them. It was as if they were actually talking to each other normally.

What do you want to find out more about this term?:

Throughout this term, I’d like to find out more about what song would affect me. Weather it would make my emotions change or will I still have the same feeling throughout the whole song, By the end of this term I would want to explain my feelings with the song I listened to and why it does.

Flounder catching at Pes!

Flounders, When that word comes to my mind I think of it as food. But not today, Pt England school is catching flounders not to eat but to farm for our own little flounder pack. In partnership with another school, Kauri Flats. As they only caught 4.

Today, The whole of Pt England school walked down to Riverside ave  to watch some of our students catch flounders. Of course, We had a limit to catch which was either 20 - 25 small baby flounders. We had up to 10 students participating down at the beach, Dragging nets and carrying big buckets to place the flounders in. As they were busy catching flounders, We were given a job to sing 3 of our school himene’s and end it with a karakia to basically show our support and Aroha.

We have just returned and according to one of our students who participated in the flounder fishing we’ve caught over 20 small baby flounders. They’re so tiny, Not even the size of my pinky yet. From my calculations I’ve got to say that they’re about 2 - 3 cm wide. Now from what I’m thinking it’ll take a lot of time for it to grow.

We look forward on seeing our baby flounder grow and hopefully some don’t pass out. Congratulations to those who did catch some, You were amazing!

Speech - Thoughts.

WALT: We are reviewing how to produce a quality blog post and comments.

Last Friday team 5 had three students from each class present a speech that they've been working on for the past four weeks. We called it "the finals" for saying speeches, It was an amazing experience while
watching other students around my age present their speech so confidently.

Most appealing to you? and Why?
From my perspective, Amelia Feleti's speech was the most appealing to me. Amelia's speech was about how her grandma passed away and she realized that her job wasn't the reason why she was happy, It was because her grandma was able to see Amelia and her siblings everyday. She used descriptive words which made it more interesting for me to listen, I personally think it was emotional for her to read but she had enough confidence to push through and continue on with her amazing speech. I definitely think she has a chance of winning the speech contest.

Which speech was the most entertaining? Most thought Provoking?
Mubashshir Shafil was the most entertaining from my point of view, He had funny points/reasons and also added a little of actions to spice it up. Mubashshir speech was about: If I were a president for a day, He'd do many things while becoming one as he is a president for just ONE day. Muba had plans, He would show his kindness around and make sure others get the same amount, People are treated the
same and not valued differently just because of the way they look. I reckon Mubashshir had a lot of reasons and it did give me thoughts of what I could of done.

If you were to give another speech in literacy what are 3 things you would work on improving?
If I were to give another speech I would work on my topic, reasons/points and projecting my voice louder. I thought my topic was good but not interesting enough for others to listen to, I needed to work on explaining my points more and add a little bit more  of descriptive words. I think I'll  need a bit more practice as I still find it hard to speak in a normal class of 20-30 kids.

Throughout this time it was a great experience to have, I found it interesting and entertaining as not one person didn't give up on saying their speech. From my thoughts I definitely think this would give them a perspective of what they would do with this talent in the future. Overall I thought it was amazing, Everyone was great!

Reflection - Speech.

WALT: Reflect on our given speech.

Today we had to reflect on our given speech, We basically just had to go through of explaining our feelings and thoughts towards our speech we gave last week. I really thought I could do better next time in doing my speech.

Let's start old school again!

WALT - I will identify the different places speeches/talks are given and how they are designed for delivery
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Over the years of attending Pt England school the technology we use digitally has grown bigger and better since 2010. Pencils and Paper to Ipads, Phones, Computers and etc. Don’t you think we need to start doing old school again? I mean have you seen our hand writing lately, It's hideous!
My point is. Year 8 students have two terms to come before heading off to college and with the writing we all have, The college teachers are going to be gobsmacked with our work. In college, Handwriting will become a common thing and you’ll definitely need it for the subjects you choose. So better start practicing now cause time does go by fast.
Also, I personally think in the future things may change especially our electronics we use everyday. Sooner or later our handwriting will no longer be as common as it is now but why not keep the old trend going? Start it all up again, It just takes a small group of children to start writing by hand.
You never know one day the power all around the world may go out in a flash. The electronics we use wouldn’t be any help, now would it? Except for a piece of paper and pencil, Now when you’re in this situation you have to know how to write/draw! Especially for it to at least look decent for others to understand from what you're trying to say.
Now you see what the consequences are if you don’t have decent handwriting? Don’t be ashamed of what it looks like, Just know that you’re not the only one. As you can see Handwriting is very important, Trust me. You’ll desperately need it during college.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Over the past few weeks, Room 3 literacy have been focusing on writing our very own speech about thing's we think we should start doing. For me, I did "Let's start old school again." The reason why I did it is because I noticed that most of our pupils in Team 5 have well from what I would say Ugly hand writing, I mean even I do! So I list my reason of why we should. Check it out!

Language Features!

WALT -  develop our knowledge on figurative language and understand their use within a text

Over the past two weeks we've been learning about Language Features! How it could be connected to a poem and so much more, We learnt the definitions of words, language features and poems. What's the story behind the poems? It all links up to the words the author uses in the poem. We had three texts to finish of this weeks learning intention. We developed our knowledge on figurative language and understand their use within the three texts we were give.

Sweet as poetry.

Here is my reading presentation, Our learning intention was on poems. We learnt new words, different ways we could present poems/speeches and we had to understand what each poem was about. Our group had to read four poems, So far my favorite is Embarrassment Expert cause I relate to it so much. I've had a lot of embarrassing moments in my life and so I could relate to the poem.

Plays and Poetry.

WALT - Analyse and Adapt spoken texts with expression and confidence

In this weeks task we had to analyse texts and their expression and confidence towards speeches, We learnt about how people have different ways of saying speeches and how it could get around to people. Some people aren't really use to saying speeches and being honest I am one of them at times. Plays and Poetry are our main focus for this week.

Biogas

WALT -  Evaluating - I gather, and synthesis to evaluate information across a range of texts

In this task we we're given to learn the different aspects of gas. I learnt how gas was use and where it comes from, In this reading text I found out that just by using cow manure it could produce gas or gases. Clearly one of the ways we could use to power up energy again if there was ever a power cut. So what would you prefer?

Staying Warm, Keeping cool.

WALT -  Evaluating - I gather, and synthesis to evaluate information across a range of texts

Last week our learning intention was to focus on Warming up and Cooling down. We had to explain the differences between certain animals to us humans of how to keep warm, For Sea mammals Blubber is what keeps sea animals warm such as Seals and Whales. Us humans have fat and clothes to keep us warm, See how many differences between the two. Wonder what will happen if it was the other way around.

My Idea of a fun weekend - Writing

What's your idea of a fun weekend? In Auckland, New Zealand there are many fun activities to do. To experience every beautiful thing around you. Lakes, Beaches and much more, You could possibly go anywhere while having the best time of your life.

My perfect idea of a fun weekend is waking up early to a big breakfast to kick off the day. Bacon, Eggs and a Milo for the drink. Such an exceptional way to fill your tummy, Delicious and yummy.  Always eat heaps, To have enough energy for the day ahead. Also drink a glass of water before going out, Keep hydrated and stay healthy.

The first activity  I would prefer doing is paintball, Paintball is just placed around the corner from the airport. It’s so fun running around and shooting your opponent, My aiming is pretty bad but at least I’m still having fun. You could possibly do this with any friends or family, As long as they don't kill your buzz of having a fun time.

I don't have much but I am sure that you’ll have the best time, Maybe you could tell me about your idea of a fun weekend. Remember, Their are a lot of things in New Zealand to do.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Whats you idea of a fun weekend? Hanging outdoors with your friends or staying inside and spending quality time with your family. Their are many opportunities of having fun outdoors and indoors, Well this term one of our writing task was to explain what our idea of a fun weekend is to us.
Multi Text ll Water Worn II Making driftwood furniture II Coral reefs
Here is my presentation that I've finished off for the week, Inside this presentation it has multiple stories inside. First is water worn, Second is Making driftwood furniture and lastly Coral reefs, All these stories link up into one or more common things. We learnt about how each story included our Ocean and what it could do to it.
What now for the Rena? - Aoraki
What now for the Rena? What could possible things like Oil spills, Really it could do a lot of damage to our ocean. Not only our oceans get damaged but also sea creatures and birds. Maybe you could look at my presentation to see what Oil spills could do to our ocean.
