Instructions should have clear, simple steps so you don’t confuse the person reading them.
Can you make these various instructions easier to understand?

Scientific Method!

WALT: What are they? Why are they important?
What is a variable? ... Let's find out!

This term we are learning about Science! For our experiment we are experiencing how long does a burger take to age, the steps are: First step: A question about the experiment, the question has to be about what you want to find out about what is gonna happen, Second step: Is the Hypothesis, Hypothesis is where you think what is gonna happen. Third Step: The equipment, find out what the equipment you would need to do the experiment. Fourth step: The method, explain how you did it or how are you gonna do it. As you can see in the presentation above I had done all of these four steps and now all I have to do is watch and see of how the burger rots.

Testing Practice: Maths

WALT: Highlight the best answer

Last week my maths group and I studied for our test this week, We were given question that would help us in the test, We learnt about fractions, measurements, multiplication and the biggest area. The presentation was meant for our knowledge in the test, So we wouldn´t get stuck on a question. It helped us to improve more in the test and making sure we know what we are doing in the test.

States of Matter!

States of matter

Task
Work on this Doc together with a partner or in a 3.

Give three examples of each state of matter?
Solid
Liquid
Gas
Linked together
Watery
Unseeable
Dense
Flowing
Fumes
Compressed
Runny
Smoke

What’s the difference between the three states of matter?
Solids
Liquids
Gases
Solids are hard
Liquids are water and Runny
Gas is unseeable

Write 3 sentences explaining something new you learned from this reading.
From this reading I learnt that everything and anything around us is made out of Matter. Every single object we see or touch is matter, Matter is atoms and molecules combined. This (matter) is anything that takes up space and has mass.
On the following days we´ve been learning about States of matter, solids and gas are different. The difference between them is: Solid is the hardest of them all, Liquids is the wateriest of them all and Gas is invisible and untouchable compared to Solid and Liquid. Reading about these three things really interested me and told me why it was watery, why it was hard and why it was invisible.

Reflection of Term 3!

This term is nearly coming to an end, I´ve already made a lot of great memories and will remember them. I´ve accomplished a lot of things this term and hope to accomplish more the next term, it's sad to say that the Yr 8´s will be leaving soon. I´d like to archive more and more the following weeks.

Best memory of the term:
To me, the bestest memory I've had was mixed netball. Experiencing different people playing in my netball was very cool, I had the opportunity to play with my yr 8 friends in the A team. I had a lot of fun playing netball and really excited to play next year, I´ll miss the yr 8s and there ways of cheering me up when I'm down.

I'll be missing the yr 8s, when we laugh in class for no reason at all. One of the funniest moments I've experienced was when we witnessed Petelis pants backwards, we laughed so much that we felt like our heads were falling off.

Working with the yr 8s had really experienced me to do a lot more next year. My goal for next year is to accomplish and achieve more so that I could be more successful in the future. Next year will be my last year at Pt England School, I cant wait for the yr 6s to become yr 7s. So I could be a great example for them. Can't wait for 2017!!

Is Ebola the same as the Black Death?

WALT: Compare and Contrast the differences between two texts

This week we´ve been learning about weather Black death and Ebola are the same or not. To me I think they are not the same, ebola and the black death are similar but they do have a lot of  different things. I´ve learnt a lot of things about Ebola and the black death, they have a lot of different things that were unexpected. If you want to find them out look in the presentation that I have made above.

Getting Ready for Rio!

This term we´ve been learning about the Olympics Rio! We learnt what athletes eat, there diet and how they train. Our class, Room 4 had to team up into 4 or 5. I had to  be with Tevita, Judah and Moroni, it felt weird being the only girl in my group but then I kinda got use to it and actually felt like they were brothers to me. Us 5 were called the Ifo ifo Squad, meaning the Yum Yum Squad. We researched about what there diet is, how they train, whats good to eat and the fiber and protein thats in food. We then presented a slideshow to our class and had to talk about what that slide is about, we had our own little scripts and practiced to sound like real professional speech talkers. Above this paragraph theirs a presentation, this is what we found out about boxing. Please Enjoy!

The Black Death.

WALT: Compare and Contrast

Today in literacy we learnt about The black plague and how it could affect other people, we answered particular questions and compared the disease with the Zika Virus. These both are kinda the same but the death is deadly to humans. Check out what I've found out!

Democrats and Republicans

This week we´ve been learning about Compare and contrast the differences between peoples views, for an example: Republicans and Democrats both have different views and believe in different things. Democrats want everyone to be the same, like they want everyone to have the same amount of environment, money and homes. Then the republicans think the poor should be left as poor because if they dropped out of school or lost all there money they deserve to stay poor cause thats what they done to themselves. For me I´d go for Democrats because Democrats seem more fair in ways and Republicans are just too harsh to people.

Converting Fractions!

This picture on the left is an a equation, its called Converting Fractions. This site helps me convert percentages into fractions then decimals, on this site the Tester gives us an number on either the percentage, fraction or decimal then we´ll then have to convert it to the simplest as we can. If you want to try out the site here is the link here.

Maths Whizz

Today on Maths Whizz I´ve been learning about subtraction. Here is an answer that I´ll then have to answer, My strategy of solving this problem was: 263 - 50= 213, then I´ll then have to do 213 - 1= 212, and that´s how I´ll be solving my question. This activity may not be hard but it does help me with remembering my strategies. I hope I have taught you something in this post.

Cross Country!

WALT: Show our Audience with our words rather than directly tell.
My heart was pounding as I head Mr Jacobsen announce the year 7 girls, waiting at the back of the courts in the hot bright sun. Lining up heading towards the start line, my stomach started turning in all kinds of ways. I was excited at first but then I felt really nervous and sick.

As we were positioning ourselves on the start line, we waited for Mr Burt´s call. Waiting and waiting not knowing when he's gonna shut the clappers hard, as soon as I put my leg out BANG! The clappers went. I jogged the first part of the race and I was already feeling tired, I was huffing and puffing and out of breath but at least I was leading the girls. That's what I thought, as I heard my friend Angelica behind me. I was slowing down and we weren't even that close to the reserve yet, I tried my hardest to stay by her and I was doing a great job at it.

Angelica was the leader of the year 7 girls coming first place. At that time I was already coming fourth, two of the girls passed me. As I was getting close to finishing my first lap I sprinted before the year 8 boys went. I knew then I shouldn't of done that because I felt exhausted, my legs were aching and my heart was burning I felt like giving up but then I wanted to make my family proud and finish thing properly. So I kept on going, keeping a good pace of speed. As I was getting close to the reserve my friend Lani caught up to me, we both encouraged each other to keep going every time we slowed down.

We both tried to get past Aysha but she was just too far. As we were getting closer to the end of the reserve I started to sprint, Lani also started to sprint too. It was like I was just racing her, as I was passing her I decided to slow down that wasn't really a great idea, Lani zoomed passed me crossing the line first. I was shocked but also proud of my friend Lani as she finished the race and didn't give up on beating me.

As I crossed the line I hugged Lani, congratulating her. We both felt tired and exhausted but we were both proud of ourselves for finishing things off properly, I thought I could of done better in cross country but fifth place is just as good. Cross Country was a good day and all my friends and I couldn't stop blabbing about it, It was great!

Hiwi the Kiwi!

We had an awesome performance yesterday morning from Hiwi the kiwi. We sang, danced and laughed along with each other, learning about Kai Moana (Food from the sea).  We are now all writing a story about fish to the best we can. There's a brand new fishing rod waiting for the bestest story in the school, How Exciting.

Mr and Mrs Minstral taught us many things about fish, Such as: How you hold it? What to use? and What Size does the fish has to be? Mark taught us, If we ever catch a saltwater fish always use a wet towel so the fish doesn't get any disease. Then after place the fish inside a bucket of salt ice, to prevent from the fish rotting. Also when we catch a fish they have to be a certain size, so if it's too small you have to place the fish back in the sea for it to grow and if it's so big then you'll have to chuck it back in the water for the fish to breed. Mark said ¨You kids can also teach this to your parents,¨ Even though my parents and I don't go fishing I was still interesting in telling them of what I learnt today.

Mark also sang us a song about Kai Moana fish in the sea. It was pretty catchy and Chrissy had an amazing dance moves, the song had a definition to it. It meant fish for the future and your whanau, fish needs a good environment in their habitats. Meaning we have to take care more care of the sea, picking up rubbish around our area and not letting in plastic to float around. The fish isn't the only species that is in harm, the black bird petril is also near to extinction. There is only a little amount of these types of birds and there really native to New Zealand, polluted water will harm fish and birds. Killing our two main key animals, we need birds for them to navigate us to where the fish is or where is the closest land when we're sailing and we need fish for us people who love to eat it, it helps our health.

When fishing Mark said we always need to wear are life jacket, so when we accidently fall in the sea we can float instead of sinking but it seems to not concern some people around the world, life jackets are designed to keep you from drowning. It's better if you have a life jacket on instead of leaving it in front of the boat because you wouldn't have enough time to grab it, put it on and strap it tight to your upper body. Overestimating the ability to swim is a major factor when choosing to go without a life jacket. The reality is that no matter how good you are at swimming when faced with fear your mind may react differently than you think it would causing you to have less ability to swim well.

Doing all these things will help you fish more better, my family and I may not fish as often but it is still important to tell them. These things can save lives and help your knowledge, this information will help you know more about fish and when you're on the boat. Life jackets and pollution is very important because life jackets can save your life and pollution can kill animals that is native to our country.

Explanation: How our muscles work

WALT: Last week, in reading, we investigated what muscle fatigue was and why our muscles get fatigued. This week you are going to investigate and write about How Our Muscles Work.

We have more than 600 muscles in our body! Even if we´re bigger or smaller, we all have the same amount. Our muscles do everything from pumping blood throughout your body into just lifting your heavy bag. You control some of your muscles, while others Like your heart and brain without you thinking about them at all. We are focusing on these questions, How do our muscles work? How many muscles do we have? and Why are muscles important for our body? This is what I'm going to explain to you readers.

Muscles need a lot of things to work, Such as: Healthy food, Exercise and Stretches. Healthy food is very important for your health and muscles, getting the right protein and vitamins helps your muscles relax and strengthen them more. Our muscles have three main muscles, the cardiac muscle, the skeletal muscle and the smooth muscle. The cardiac muscle known as the heart muscle, this muscle is found of the walls that protects our heart. Cardiac muscle pumps blood from our heart to around our body, the heart can also be called the myocardium. The skeletal muscle, It is a form of striated muscle tissue which is placed under the voluntary control of the somatic nervous system. Most of the skeletal muscle is attached to bones by bundles of fibers known as tendons. The smooth muscle works by themselves, it is also called voluntary. This muscle is used when you feel like spewing and it forces the food up into your mouth pushing it out.

Your brain and heart is another way of how your muscles work. The brain sends messages to different parts of your body and also receives messages from our muscles, For an example: When you feel pain in your muscles, the muscle sends a message to the brain detecting that you have pain in the particular muscle. The heart is protected by the muscle of Cardiac, The Cardiac muscle is the walls of the heart. It surrounds the heart, the muscle pumps blood to the vessels of the left/body/systemic and right/lungs circulatory systems. The cells that constitute cardiac muscle are called cardiomyocytes or myocardiocytes. The myocardium is the muscle tissue of the heart, and forms a thick middle layer between two layers. The outer epicardium and the inner endocardium.

My body is very important to me and I learnt a lot of things about my body and my muscles. Its helps me think about what's good for my muscles and how my muscles work, I learnt a lot of new words and its definition. I think I explained how our muscles work really well, and hope to do more explanations. I´ve learnt a lot during this task, working on how our muscles work had taught me a lot of things that I didn't know.

Sleep Sleuths

WALT: Apply the text

This week in literacy we are learning about How much sleep we need, we learnt about how older we get the less sleep we need. When we´re younger we need more and more sleep and as we get older when tend to need less sleep. I learnt more words in this text and had to answer the questions that had to apply to the text, My graph shows how yr 6 and yr 10´s sleeping needs are different. If you want to see my graph scroll through the presentation that is above.

How the Olympics came to be!

Olympics are a massive sporting event that takes part in different countries around the world every four years, they provide summer and winter sports. Athletes compete against each other to win medals for their nation. Top athletes around the world qualify to represent their country or nation.

The olympics began in 776 Bc (Before christ), starting off with the sport of running. Athletes could only run a 100m track, at the time only men were allowed to compete. Theodosius the first then announced that all Pugan cults were banned, Emperor Theodosius was a christian and abolished the games because the Olympic games were dedicated to pagan god and banned all pagan practises. 15 hundred years later in 1896 the summer and winter sports were then introduced and began to play.

This year the Olympic games are held at Rio, Brazil. Every four years a chosen country will help the Olympics, When a country holds the Olympics. The country will then get a lot of tourism and mediaworks. Rio Brazil had redone hotels, restaurants and the big stadium to a high standard. The owners of these places will get a lot of money coming in, this is similar to the Rugby world cup and the Commonwealth games held at a certain country.

Olympic games have changed over the past few years, such as more events, changes of the rules and much more. Back in the days Women were not allowed to compete or watch the olympic games only men were, at that time the olympics were only held at greece but now the Olympics are held in different countries. Also back in the days they had to compete in the nude, running with just a small rag covering there rare part. Olympics was also based on sporting excellence, Meaning you would have to be at least good at Discus, Shot put, Running, Jumping, Fighting/Wrestling and Javelin.

The Olympics 2016 has come around, all around the world are celebrating the start of the Olympics especially in Rio. I wish all the New Zealand athletes a good luck, especially my personal favourite Valerie Adams. One of my favourite sport in the olympics is Discus and she inspires me to push my excellence in Discus. I'm excited to watch her play and study her technique and position, imitating her skills makes me feel like I´m in the Olympics.

Why do our muscles get tired?

This week in literacy we learnt about Why do our muscles get tired? Our muscles get tired because we work them to much or the exercise that we do. My group and I had a presentation to do we had to answer this to a high standard, were learning to identify the information that supports the main idea of the text. Muscle Fatigue is one of the few words that we learnt this week. If you want to know more about muscle fatigue read the presentation the is above.

Activity 1: Winter Learning Journey

If I was alive 2792 years ago competing in the Olympics, I would represent to be a Runner. In a race people way back in the days would run a Stade, meaning they would have to run from one side of the stadium to the other. People ran two tracks the dialous and the dolichos. The dialous means people ran two lengths of the track, The dolichos means they would ran 20 meters of the track. Why  I did choose running? I chose running because I love to run around from one place to another, another reason is because running is very good for your health and brain, waking your brain up from sleeping or from being very tired. Even though if I had a chance competing in the Ancient Olympics I would still not be able to compete because only men could compete in the Olympics. Women then were allowed to compete in the modern Olympics.

The class news paper!

WALT: Reflect on the text

This week we are learning about Reflecting on the text, this means what we think about what is going on in the text of our journal. Tama and his family noticed as they were catching fish that they weren´t catching that much of food as they usually did, Tama had a korero with his uncle and grandmother, Tama then made that as his news and reported in the newspaper of his school.

Where´s the baby?!

Where´s the baby?!

Once there lived a family of three, a beautiful blonde haired mom, A muscular tall dad and a regular cute little baby girl. They were a lovely family that lived in a multi million dollar home placed in Auckland, New Zealand. Emily the mom loved doing her work in the city and John the dad loved to stay home looking after his beautiful daughter Elizabeth. Elizabeth was beautiful that everyone stopped by and admired her whenever the mum or dad took her to go shopping, but one person thought otherwise and decided to do something really dumb. This is where trouble came around and a lot of people tried to snatch Elizabeth. Emily and John had to be more careful with Elizabeth, has she could now crawl away.

One stormy night, Elizabeth was crying her head off. John and Emily ignored it like nothing was happening for a while but then couldn't take it in, John checked on Elizabeth but Elizabeth wasn't there! The window by her cot was smashed opened, John shouted ¨Emily, THE BABY´S GONE!¨ Emily rushed in the room and was shocked. Emily and John dialled the police, reporting a missing child. John was worried and felt guilty that he didn't check on Elizabeth any sooner. Emily ran to the car, and started the search for her daughter. While John called relatives for any help, this was an emergency. Emily and John were worried sick, and they couldn't think straight. The next day Emily came home, her face was pale as she did all her best to find Elizabeth. John looked like a walking Zombie up all night ringing relatives. They were both worried sick about Elizabeth, Emily and John did everything to find their daughter.

A loud BANG came from Elizabeth´s room, John ran in with Emily behind him. They found their daughters blanket on her cot with a note saying ¨If you want your daughter back, come to the alley way by your house tomorrow 7:00pm Only John can be present - E.¨ Emily did not want John to go by himself, but John just wanted to get Elizabeth back again. The next day, John thought about what he was going to do. Emily tried her hardest to talk John out of going by himself, but John didn't listen.

As time went by, it was nearly 7:00am, John got himself ready. Emily was feeling really nervous, John walked out the door and starting making his way to the alley way. As he walked down, John heard a cry, just like Elizabeth's one. John looked around but couldn't see anything in his site, John then saw someone standing by the gate in the alley-way. John yelled out ¨Who's there,¨ but no reply. At this time John was feeling a little scared, as he did not know who was there. John turned around and made his one down the alley - way, John kept on hearing Elizabeth's cry but didn't know where it was coming from. A loud BANG came from behind, John turned around and found footsteps in blood leading to a trolley. John was shocked.

John followed the footsteps to the trolley, and then found Elizabeth there lying dead not breathing. John was in tears, he then picked Elizabeth up and couldn't believe his eyes. John cried, he couldn't even say anything. He then got up and carried Elizabeth back home, John knocked on the door yelling out ¨Open the door¨. Emily opened it, and was in shock. John and Emily started crying there eyes out, Emily said ¨What did you do¨ John replied ¨Nothing, she was there dead.¨ Emily started crying with John, they were both broken. Emily dialled the police, saying that they have found the baby but she is dead. The police came over and analysed the alley - way, but nothing was there to find who killed  Elizabeth. The case was named ‘unsolved’.
Elizabeth had a beautiful funeral, she was dressed in a red bloomy dress and pretty flowers surrounding her in her brown shiny coffin. As her family relatives carry her to the grave family and friends sang a lovely song. A few weeks later Emily was pregnant with a baby boy, they named the Baby Ej, but that's another story.

My news article!!

Recently in Australia a super storm hit there country making it go viral. Heavy Rain and damaging winds have hit Queensland, New South wales and Tasmania over the past few days, making it hard for workers to get to where they need to go.

In this past few days only three have been confirmed dead near Canberra, NSW after this wild weather this long weekend.

A lot of residents have evacuated as the storm moves south. Many businesses and homes flooded with heaps of water from the rain. This has happened for the past few days.

A lot of people have been forced out of there house dew to danger, Including houses along Sydney's Collaroy Beach has been forced to evacuate out of their Multi-million dollar homes, which are now in danger by collapsing homes.

New Zealand's weather website told us we might expect it to approach New Zealand on Wednesday, with an average likelihood to have heavy rains around, Westland, Fiordland, the Otago and Canterbury waterways and buller over a few days.

Hokulea: Our Waka

WALT: Our waka
Today in our art group we were given instructions about our waka. Our group Hokulea had to find a perfect image for us to trace for our wool & nail art, we found this image on the right and sent it to Mr Wiseman. My partners and I helped each other to find this perfect image for us to trace, we had to do this as a team because we needed each others advice about what image to trace. We had to do this because we needed an image for us to trace. Our image was suppose to be clear, easy to trace with nail and big.

Wool & Nail Art!

Today we learnt how to make Wool and Nail art. The year 8´s and 7´s are focusing on Art. We rotate in our space, going to each teacher with different activities to do. In this time we made Wool and Nail art in Mr Wisemans class.

We did this with Nail, wool and a plank of wood. I thought this class was very exciting to do and fun, we learn how to do this in two days. This activity will be really fun to do, but it would be best if a parent is there to help you to do some of the stuff. My partner and I did a lot of experiments of what patterns we should do, this was very cool. Please enjoy and Hope you found our art amazing.
