Hiwi the Kiwi!

We had an awesome performance yesterday morning from Hiwi the kiwi. We sang, danced and laughed along with each other, learning about Kai Moana (Food from the sea).  We are now all writing a story about fish to the best we can. There's a brand new fishing rod waiting for the bestest story in the school, How Exciting.

Mr and Mrs Minstral taught us many things about fish, Such as: How you hold it? What to use? and What Size does the fish has to be? Mark taught us, If we ever catch a saltwater fish always use a wet towel so the fish doesn't get any disease. Then after place the fish inside a bucket of salt ice, to prevent from the fish rotting. Also when we catch a fish they have to be a certain size, so if it's too small you have to place the fish back in the sea for it to grow and if it's so big then you'll have to chuck it back in the water for the fish to breed. Mark said ¨You kids can also teach this to your parents,¨ Even though my parents and I don't go fishing I was still interesting in telling them of what I learnt today.

Mark also sang us a song about Kai Moana fish in the sea. It was pretty catchy and Chrissy had an amazing dance moves, the song had a definition to it. It meant fish for the future and your whanau, fish needs a good environment in their habitats. Meaning we have to take care more care of the sea, picking up rubbish around our area and not letting in plastic to float around. The fish isn't the only species that is in harm, the black bird petril is also near to extinction. There is only a little amount of these types of birds and there really native to New Zealand, polluted water will harm fish and birds. Killing our two main key animals, we need birds for them to navigate us to where the fish is or where is the closest land when we're sailing and we need fish for us people who love to eat it, it helps our health.

When fishing Mark said we always need to wear are life jacket, so when we accidently fall in the sea we can float instead of sinking but it seems to not concern some people around the world, life jackets are designed to keep you from drowning. It's better if you have a life jacket on instead of leaving it in front of the boat because you wouldn't have enough time to grab it, put it on and strap it tight to your upper body. Overestimating the ability to swim is a major factor when choosing to go without a life jacket. The reality is that no matter how good you are at swimming when faced with fear your mind may react differently than you think it would causing you to have less ability to swim well.

Doing all these things will help you fish more better, my family and I may not fish as often but it is still important to tell them. These things can save lives and help your knowledge, this information will help you know more about fish and when you're on the boat. Life jackets and pollution is very important because life jackets can save your life and pollution can kill animals that is native to our country.
