Labour Day!

Working 10 or more hours in shifts, Having no break at all was such a pain to workers back in the day. October 28th 1890 was the day New Zealand decided to have a public holiday (labour day), It’s one of the day’s our people could take a day off from working. Amazingly Aotearoa was one of many countries to start an 8 hour working rate.

Every 4th Monday of October, Workers get to celebrate the right of working less than 12 hours. Way back in the days, Such as 1890 people didn’t have the option to work less or more than 12 hours and sadly some even worked for up to 18 hours. Samuel Parnell, A man who refused to work 8 hours or more as a carpenter in a shop he worked in.

Samuel Parnell. One of the most important people in New Zealand, most likely known to be a legend for being able to speak up and working only up to 8 hours in carpentry. Always explaining his rights in court, as to why he didn’t work for his normal 10 hour working day and it could and would affect his pay wage. Throughout his years of working, he did not care about a single thing of what a person had to say. He kept his ways and continued on to work his 8 hours.

It was fair enough, New Zealand had the right of claiming the right to have an 8 hour working day, but they decided to support Mr Parnell’s idea of working a full 8 hour day. Wellington judge decided for everyone in New Zealand and possibly other countries to have the right of being able to work 8 hours.

Now you know why Labour day is now here today, maybe consider a day to celebrate it yourself as it is a special day to remember. What does Labour day mean to you? Well you now know the reason so why not celebrate!

Niuean Language - Cheeehoooo!

Justifying - I can discuss and justify my responses across texts and material I read and see.

Week 1, During our literacy time our group learnt about Niue! In the presentation above, I had to state my perspective/opinion on what I personally thought and then also state what I thought the author felt in a way. We learnt about the difficulties and struggles of not being able to grow up in the Niue cultural way but also finding out ways that we could actually keep our Niue language alive!

Musical Madness! - Immersion Assembly.

Term 4 has arrived and our learning intention is now Musical Madness! As our usual start to the day for Pt England school we always host an immersion assembly, Explaining what each team is learning towards. Laughter was shown and everyone talking about what fun they’re going to have throughout the term. Well this is what I thought about it all!

Most Informative:
I reckon Team 5 had the most informative show. Throughout the whole item, they explained how they felt towards the movie that had either a song or tune to it. Weather it was scary, happy or sad they’d explain their thoughts to us audience. Showing us what Team 5 is learning towards Term 4

Most Entertaining:
The one show that caught my attention was Team 3! They were hilarious in their movie. It showed them having a conversation using songs they’d listen to on a normal day out, Not only they showed having a conversation but they also showed their emotions and feelings towards on what people had to say to them. It was as if they were actually talking to each other normally.

What do you want to find out more about this term?:

Throughout this term, I’d like to find out more about what song would affect me. Weather it would make my emotions change or will I still have the same feeling throughout the whole song, By the end of this term I would want to explain my feelings with the song I listened to and why it does.
