Basket  Boats
1. Find Qui Nhon on a map.  Zoom out and take a screenshot of Qui Nhon and New Zealand on the map.

2. What job does Thanh want when he grows up? He wants to be a fishermen just like his dad.

3. Where is Qui Nhon? In Vietnam

4. What is a thung chai? It is a basket boat.

5. List in order the jobs the children will do if there is an extra big catch of fish:

1. The boys fetch the fresh fish from the thung chai.
2. They sort the fish from sizes.
3. Then they drag the thung chai back  to shore.


6. How does the boat get its shape?  They start with the top which they get a bambo and curve it to make it like the shape and start weaving down.

7. What makes the thung chai stay together? A sap from the bamboo tree is to stick it together.

8. Why do they smear sticky resin over the thung chai?The sap help's the bamboo from going bad and makes it water tight.

9. List three ways the thung chai can be used for.
-Crab fishing
-Fishing
-Sailing
