WALT: Use 2 different strategies to solve word problems.
During this week we've also been learning about Word problems, a few in our class tend to get confused as they're focusing on the words more than the problem. Today we have a few word problems today, take a look in the presentation above to see what I've been working on.

Week 1&2: Geometry Words. Directions.
WALT: Use Geometry words involving directions.
These two weeks of school, During maths we learnt how to use geometry words involving directions. We had to use one of our street maps and locate 3-4 other locations of how to get there using Geometry words. Such as: North, East, South and West or Never Eat Soggy Weet bix. (My way of remembering it.)

See if you can solve these word problems. Show how you worked it out!! (use brackets to expand numbers)
- It rained 1.35 inches on Saturday and 1.98 inches on Sunday. How much did it rain on Saturday and Sunday combined?
- 1.35 + 1.98 = 3.33
- (1 + 1 = 2)
- (0.3 + 0.9= 1.2)
- (.5 + .8 = 1.3)
- There were 7.6 litres of water in Jacob's bathtub. Then 2.9 litres drained out. How much water is left in the bathtub?
- 7.6 - 2.9 = 4.7
- (7 - 2 = 5 )
- ( .6 - .9 = .3)
- A carpenter bought a piece of wood that was 6.15 meters long. Then he sawed 2.14 meters off the end. How long is the piece of wood now?
- 6.15 - 2.14 = 4.01
- (6 - 2 = 4)
- ( .10 - .10 = .0)
- ( .5 - .4 = .1)
- A chef bought 4.2 kilograms of almonds and 7.8 kilograms of pecans. How many kilograms of nuts did the chef buy in all?
- 4.2 + 7.8= 12.
- ( 4 + 7 = 11)
- (.2 + .8= 1)
- It snowed 8.9 inches on Monday and 3.9 inches on Tuesday. How much did it snow on Monday and Tuesday combined?
- 8.9 + 3.9= 12.8
- ( 8 + 3= 11)
- (.9 + .9= 1.8)
- It rained 0.97 cm on Monday. On Tuesday, it rained 0.4 cm less than on Monday. How much did it rain on Tuesday? READ CAREFULLY-THIS ONE WILL TRY AND TRICK YOU!
- 0.97 - 0.4= 0.57
- (0.9 - 0.4 = 0.5)
- ( It rained 0.57cm on Tuesday.)
- Omar spent Saturday picking berries at a berry farm. In the morning, he picked 3.61 kg of berries. In the afternoon, he picked 2.4 kgs. How many pounds of berries did Omar pick in all?
- 3.61 + 2.4=6.01
- ( 3 + 2= 5.)
- (.6 + .4 = 1)
- (.1)
- A bee colony produced 0.91 pounds of honey, but bears ate 0.9 pounds of it. How much honey remains?
- 0.91 - 0.9= 0.01
- (0.9 - 0.9 = 0.0)
- (0.1)
- Oscar bought 5.87 pounds of melon and 3.18 pounds of cherries. How much fruit did he buy in all?
- 5.87 + 3.18= 9.05

- 0.8 + 0.25= 1.05
- ( 0.8 + 0.2 = 1)
- (0.00 + 0.05 = 0.05)
Above my description I have my extension work, I was given two task to finish over the past two weeks of week 8 & 9. After finishing my last work last week I then moved on to my extension work, I had to solve and show my working out of how I got my answer.

Statistics - Maths
WALT - Identify and uses tenths to make numbers
This weeks task was Statistics, We had to Identify the uses of tenths to make numbers. We used graphs, Percentages, Decimals and Fractions. I learnt that I do over think about the question instead of just thinking of the main topic, We learnt about the interpret and a range of graphs. Different graphs have different uses to them.

Popsicle Decimals.
WALT - Identify and uses tenths to make numbers
This weeks task was to identify and use tenths to make numbers. We used Popsicle sticks to round up the numbers we were given, We then added both decimals to get the result we wanted. To get the right answer we used Popsicle sticks.

Well Weathered - Maths
Answer:
- Kaitaia at the moment is the best weather out of Kaitaia and Tekapo, As it shows in the graphs Kaitaia is just above Tekapo in weather
- In Kaitaia and Tekapo the weather is great the sun is out but it’s just way too cold. Even though its sunny it can be cold.
- How much it went from the start to the end, It could show us what temperature it was at the start and how cold it was at the end of the night.
- Yes, As it shows in the graph Kaitaia was the warmest.
- Tekapo seems to be the one that rains less than Kaitaia, Kaitaia weather hasn’t been all sunshine.
- It starts off with a low amount of rain and than it goes heavy rain.
- I wonder how long did it rain for?
- I discussed with my class mate that it may of rained all day since the levels of the rainfall is very high but then we also think that it may of rained in the morning, afternoon than at night.

- Same: They both spend more time watching tv then doing the homework.
- Different:Room 5 spends more time doing their homework than Room 6.
2:
- Yes, Did you know that it could wreck your eyesight. It also disturbs your brain, Sleeping patterns and you’ll forget to do things you’re meant to do.
3:
- They spend more time watching Tv or either doing something other than Home Work, What I think we need to do is to at least spend 10 - 20 minutes answering 5 - 10 questions.
